I think the evolution of AI from where ChatGPT and DALL-E are now will eventually allow an architect to say something like “Design a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom single story residential house with an attached 2 car garage.” The program will render a dimensioned image that can be subsequently modified by the architect as a starting point.

Amazing coincidence yesterday I was reviewing a I and architectural possibilities with design on youtube. I think it’s all residential and commercial codes were Uploaded into the AI system and all chief architect programs and capabilities We’re uploaded into a I the possibilities are endless. Additionally if all engineering formulas were Uploaded into AI that could facilitate loads and bearing capacities. I also believe if architects and designers throughout the world were able to upload finished detailed as built engineered plans AI would be able to design Complete plan sheets.

That is a worth goal for AI. Take some of the production burden off of us and other design or engineering professionals. Existing companies like CA are ripe for this kind of integration. They should strive to be first into this arena, rather than being reactive and behind the other CAD leaders.

I am not of the opinion that AI and specifically ChatGPT (or anything like it) is/are something that will be beneficial to mankind. If we think having powerful computers and a few people managing the AI programs is something that will be good for us, I think we’ll find out in time that history will prove the opposite is true. This sort of technology is not our friend IMO.

It’s going to be awesome Curtis. Actually, it already is awesome.

If you visit online forums like Reddit, you’ll find plenty of homeowners interested in designing their projects without us, the designer. AI will force us to up our game to stay relevant, which I’m not sure how that will work. Already much of civil engineering related to home design calculations are completed by AI. Will we see the end of designers in our lifetime? Architecture, engineering and design all need to be aware of AI.
The only jobs that won’t go away, are the people physically swinging the hammers and doing the actual construction. Oddly enough, we have the biggest shortage of labor in construction.

More important than what artificial intelligence says about Chief Arquitect software is whether Chief Arquitect will include AI to assist the user in design. Right now there are several software packages that are impressive and from one area can automatically create proposals for content distribution on the floorplan. e.g. Architechtures, Finch 3D and PlanFinder. If Chief Arquitect doesn’t buy or get their act together to include this functionality, they will soon be replaced. The ease of use and the huge gain in time and flexibility that this brings is astounding. You could tell the AI to best lay out the bedroom area, kitchen, set certain walls, windows, number of rooms, position of the sun or give it total flexibility, then take the best of the proposals or combine them in several iterations. It also calculates the costs, consumption, CO2 according to each solution.

The time it would save to have AI rendering in Chief Architect!!! When will CA be adding this…I feel behind not having this option. The renderings are so much better than what I’ve seen capable in CA. EvolveLab offers the Veras app for Sketchup, Revit and Rhino…why not CA? I enjoy working with CA and don’t want to change that but AI is a game changer.

I think Finch 3D, Plan Finder, Maket, 5D Planner and other similar kinds of AI-based software are good for people other than architects, interior designers and civil engineers. They provide us with 2D plans, 3D plans and 360-degree views by substituting the items, fixtures, furniture etc. from their own predefined libraries. They cannot create an object and so on like AutoCAD, Chief Architect, SketchUp etc. I would like to recommend including AI rendering in Chief Architect, that would be very helpful.

I hope your team is looking closely at integrating AI into CA in a more basic fashion that is a more profitable model for both CA and for us, the users. The most logical option for AI is to train it how to us that old, ineffective CAD LINES to WALLS parametric feature you’ve had for several years.
Why? It would take the load of converting an existing 2d plan into an accurate 3d model. Then AI could also be train to DRAFT up a set of 2d plans based on each users current templates. Once setup, we the users, would have a AI computer aided draftsmen! That would allow us to focus more on Design and less on production.
Check out what one of the fathers of AI said about how to develop such a business model:
